Bulandet is a sauna hat made from 100% Norwegian wool, for those who like things simple, functional and made from proper materials. The deep green colour has a calm character, while the dense wool felt shields your head as the temperature rises.
The story behind the name
At the western edge of Askvoll lies Bulandet, around 300 low islands, islets and skerries scattered across the sea. The name comes from the Old Norse word for dwellings, here referring to fishermen’s cabins, and it remains an active fishing village. Our dark green hat takes its name from this place. Not because it is meant to depict Bulandet, but because its colour and character belong in the same coastal landscape.
Why wear a sauna hat?
Putting on wool in an already hot sauna may seem counterintuitive. But insulation is precisely the point. Heat rises, and the head is often the first place where the temperature becomes uncomfortable. The dense wool felt shields it from the most intense heat, helping your head stay more comfortable while your body is free to sweat. It also protects your hair and scalp from dry heat.
100% Norwegian wool
The felt is made from Norwegian wool at Sjølingstad Uldvarefabrikk in Southern Norway. The hats are then sewn in small batches in Norway. No complicated material blends. Just thick Norwegian wool felt and a simple product designed to do one job properly.
Use and care
For best results, use the hat dry. Wool is naturally resistant to odours and rarely needs washing between sessions. When needed, soak the hat in cold water, then leave it to dry without wringing. Avoid machine washing and high heat.
