Our Story
About løyly.
We are Beate and Marcus, and løyly actually started because we needed a place to breathe – and a reason to slow down a bit. The name is borrowed from Finnish "löyly", but we have made it Norwegian to create something that belongs here: between fjord, rain, wood stove and everyday chaos. For us, løyly is the feeling when the warmth hits, your shoulders drop, and you feel that life feels a little more right.
Løyly – roots and craftsmanship
Our felt hats begin as Norwegian wool at Sjølingstad Woolen Mill, a living museum factory where old 19th-century machines still run and ancient knowledge of wool hangs in the air. From there, the felt is sent to Bergen, where each hat is sewn by hand by employees in adapted work, in small batches where some actually recognize the products as their own. This means that each sauna hat is not just an accessory, but a small piece of Norwegian history and craftsmanship that you take with you onto the bench.
Our sauna vision
Løyly started with hats, but we are actually building a small online shop for people who really love sauna. Already now you will find essential oils and equipment we use ourselves, and eventually we will fill up with a few, carefully selected "sauna essentials". We want løyly. to feel like a small community of people who take sauna seriously – and who know that good sessions provide more than just warmth.
