What's behind løyly's sauna hats?
In short: good materials, good people, and a love for saunas. This is how løyly hats are made... The beautiful felt we use is made the old-fashioned way at the Sjølingstad Uldvarefabrikk museum factory. Here, Norwegian-produced wool is washed, carded, and felted - by lovely old machines from another era.
The fresh new felt is then sent to us in Bergen, where we deliver it to our skilled employees on vocational rehabilitation measures at ALF AS. Here, the felt is transformed into the hats we love. The result of skilled cutting, sewing, and a good dose of love is fantastic sauna hats!
Why use a sauna hat?
A sauna hat as an item of clothing is a traditional and essential accessory with deep roots in Finnish sauna culture. For many, it may seem very contradictory to wear something you associate with a warm garment in an already hot sauna. The principle, however, is simple. A sauna hat insulates the head from the extreme temperature on the outside, and since heat rises, you save your head from the worst heat. The sauna hat therefore allows you to keep your head "cool" and your body sweating - a little longer. In addition, hair and scalp are protected from wear and dryness.
